My Favorite Products For Icy Blonde Hair

Oh, the quest for Icy Blonde Hair… what a journey it’s been. If you are on the road to that grayish, lavender hue then I’m sure you have a Pinterest board FULL of stunning pictures of girls with those elusive white-blonde locks.

I was there too… and after a year of tweaking and toning. I’m going to pass along my favorite products to help you achieve your look!

Now, I must say that I could not have achieved my “icy” status without my brilliant stylist and long time friend, Brittney! You’ve got to have the right foundation to build the house… you know what I’m saying?

So keep in mind I get my hair highlighted and toned every six weeks in a salon. These products are what I use at home to maintain in between appointments and also take it up a notch!

Shampoo

By my calculations, I’ve tried 90% of the purple shampoos on the market and spent $754.32 in the process (lol). So let me give you a short cut!

I use a purple or blue shampoo every other time I shampoo my hair (I do 2-3 washes a week). I use a regular shampoo when I’m not using my purple or blue shampoos.

Favorite Purple Shampoo - Matrix - Total Results So Silver

The one that started the purple-neutralization trend! So Silver is a professional salon clarifying shampoo that cleanses and neutralizes unwanted brassy warmth and eliminates dull, yellow tones. It illuminates highlights on blondes and adds shimmering brightness for color treated and natural hair ranging from grey to white shades.

How To Use: Apply to wet hair, lather and rinse well. Repeat if necessary. For maximum benefits, leave second lather on 3-5 minutes.

WARNING: If you leave it on too long your hair WILL turn lavender! You also might want to wear gloves. My cuticles sometimes turn purple :)

Favorite Blue Shampoo - Matrix - Total Results Brass Off

Brass Off is a professional salon clarifying shampoo that neutralizes brassy tones while refreshing your hair with cool tones. This was made for brunettes who lighten their hair, this shampoo deposits balancing blue-violet pigments to reduce brassy tones. I also find it helpful for my blonde hair! I’ll usually rotate between the blue and purple depending on how light I want my blonde.

Key Benefits:

  • Deposits balancing blue-violet pigments to reduce brassy tones

  • Can be left on hair for 2-3 minutes for added toning

  • Suitable for color treated and natural hair

How To Use: Apply to wet hair, lather and rinse well. Repeat if necessary. For maximum benefits, leave second lather on 3-5 minutes.

Fast Dry Hair Product

Aquis Original Performance Drying Technology Hair Towel

Did you know hair is weakest when wet? Up to 56% weaker in fact. This can cause color-fade, frizz, damage, and even breakage! Getting hair to a damp state as quickly as possible without heat or friction helps minimize these hair havocs.
This hands-free solution is engineered to correctly dry hair from wet to damp, quickly, evenly and without heat. They wick water away faster than a cotton towel, gently drying your hair without the damage caused by friction from bath towels or harmful heat from blow dryers. Its convenient, lightweight design keeps hair comfortably and securely in place, freeing your hands so you can get ready for the day and fall in love with your hair all over again!

After Shower Products

Amika - Bust Your Brass Purple Leave-In Conditioner Foam

What it is:
Bust Your Brass Violet Leave-In Treatment Foam is a no-rinse, ultra-violet, daily conditioning treatment that provides an instant burst of optical brighteners to enhance blonde radiance, while weightlessly hydrating and softening. Keeping hair bright and hydrated. AND IT SMELLS HEAVENLY!

Key benefits:
- Counteracts harsh brassy tone to deliver shiny, cool-toned results
- Weightlessly hydrates, softens, and detangles
- Fortifies hair with nutrients and minerals.

How To Use: Shake well, dispense into palms and distribute evenly through damp hair.

Tip: I use this more mid-shaft to the ends of my hair and the next product that listed is how I can target my roots!

BLONDME - Instant Blush Blonde Beautifier

BLONDME's Instant Blush Blonde Beautifier is a pastel spray for soft, translucent color reflections. This spray is a direct pigment for instant blonde beautification that lasts up to 3 shampoos. Basically a toner in a bottle! I use this at my roots in brassy areas or areas I want to lighten.

Key benefits:

  • Convenient & temporary leave-in or rinse out spray toner for icy tone or yellow neutralization

  • Balances pH & helps to close the cuticle

How To Use: Spray directly on hair and comb for even distribution. (*I only use at roots) Blot any excess color from the hair with a paper towel and blow-dry to seal the color.

Warning: May want to apply with gloves. Cover your clothes and surroundings or apply in the shower. This stuff is messy so I spray close and precise. Do not spray like hairspray or else your bathroom will be covered in purple droplets and they are not easy to remove (not that I would know 😆)

The Finisher

OLAPLEX - No. 7 Bonding Oil

Do you remember the old American Express commercials that would say “Never Leave Home Without It”? Well this is my “Amex Product”. Not necessarily an “Icy Blonde Only” secret but with all the products you are putting on your hair you want it to look healthy and vibrant. And this little guy will do the trick!

Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil is a first-of-its-kind, highly concentrated, ultra-lightweight, reparative styling oil. It repairs, strengthens, and hydrates all hair types. It dramatically increases shine, softness, and color vibrancy, while minimizing flyaways and heat protection up to 450°F and it works on all hair types and textures.

How To Use: Remove cap. Turn bottle upside down and gently tap index finger on the bottom of bottle to dispense a metered drop. Apply a small amount (2-3 drops) to damp or dry hair, style as desired.

So that’s all my little Icy Secrets! Drop me a note below if you have some products you love or need more details about how I use what’s listed above!
